The fruit in our latest Reserve Shiraz Viognier is from Ben and James Crossings’ Angullong vineyard in Orange NSW, at 660m altitude.
This wine is a blend of 97% Shiraz with 3% Viognier.
Viognier is added to provide aromatic complexity, and also to contribute texture to the palate.
There are bright aromas of blackberry, plum, dark cherry, spice and musk.
The palate has beautiful ripe flavours and mid-palate richness, and with a lovely lacing of ripe silky tannin. Balanced acidity provides structural support to the soft, round texture - perfect with red meat.
For best enjoyment, remove cork and let breathe for an hour before serving.
This wine will age very well over the next 5 years.
"From the Crossing vineyard in Orange, the two varieties presumably co-fermented, because the colour is excellent; the bouquet and palate have distinct spice and liquorice notes, the palate is generous and plush, with black cherry and plum to the fore; the oak is, as usual with Centennial, a bystander. 94 points" James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2013
