Normally we make a two styles of Tempranillo: a light, juicy, red fruited style of Tempranillo from our own vines here in Bowral; and a more robust style with significantly more ripeness and weight from Orange, NSW (Ben and James Crossings’ Angullong vineyard, at 660m altitude).
Due to poor weather here in Bowral in 2011, we only made the Reserve Tempranillo, from Orange fruit..
The complex nose reveals aromas of blackberry and dark fruits, with superb subtle oak characters. The palate has very good richness and ripeness, with the typical cool climate elegance and structure we get from this vineyard. There is fantastic flavour density and volume, with a significant amount of ripe tannin complementing hearty food.
This wine will gain even more harmony in 6-12 months as the tannins soften.
Great with roast beef and lamb.
Drink now and into the next decade.
