Arneis originates from Piedmont, Italy. Arneis means “little rascal”, so called because it is a difficult variety to grow.
The fruit for our 2012 Reserve Arneis was grown at Rowlee Vineyard, Orange at 900 metres above sea level. The season was quite cool and the grapes retained excellent natural acidity. Partial wild and malo-lactic fermentation in French oak (4% new) with regular battonage (lees stirring) has added complex buttery characters to the subtle pear, stonefruit and herbal core.
The palate has lovely balance. There is good richness with soft acid, leading towards a fuller-bodied style. A delightfully different wine that partners well with full flavoured foods. Drink now to 2018.
