Description

The fruit for our Reserve Shiraz Viognier is grown at Angullong vineyard in Orange NSW, at 660m altitude. This vintage shows concentrated and ripe Shiraz character as a result of warm growing conditions throughout the 2018 growing season. This wine is a blend of 96% Shiraz with 4% Viognier

Viognier is included to enhance aromatic complexity, and also to contribute texture to the palate. The perfumed nose shows ripe, dark fruit flavours (blackberry, black plum), ripe spices, with subtle coffee oak.

The full-bodied palate has beautifully ripe blackberry flavours with a lovely lacing of ripe, silky tannin. This vintage again shows excellent mid-palate weight and flesh.

Perfect with red meat. For best enjoyment, remove cork and let breathe for an hour before serving.

This wine will age very well over the next decade. A harmless deposit could form due to minimal filtration.

Drink now to 2031.

This is solid wine, albeit very ripe for an ostensibly cool-climate region. The finesse card is not in the deck. Mulberry and bitter chocolate scents are hauled over a rich carriage of oak, accentuated by a belt of reduction that is tauter than it needs to be. The tannins, moreish, detailed and nicely pliant, keep everything on track. Just. The envelope is pushed almost too far.
