The fruit for this wine was grown at our Bridge creek vineyard in Orange at an altitude of 850m, giving the wine wonderful cool-climate elegance and fruit definition. 2019 was a great growing season resulting in beautifully ripe fruit in perfect condition. This is our first release of Mencia. If you like fragrant red wines with Pinot Noir-like characteristics, then this is worth a try.
Mencia is traditionally grown in the Northwestern area of Spain, and Portugal….https://winefolly.com/deep-dive/mencia-wine/
The enticing nose reveals varietal aromas of lifted fresh herbs and stalk aromas with blood plum and blackberry. The light-medium bodied palate is silky, rounded and balanced, with excellent flavour intensity and length. The tannins are ripe and approachable making this wine the perfect accompaniment to grilled meats, sausages and cheese.
Great drinking now, but will continue to harmonise over the next 5 years.
