Centennial Vineyards Reserve Grüner Veltliner (pronounced GROO-ner Velt-LEEN-er) is grown in our cool-climate Bowral Vineyards in The Southern Highlands, NSW and is our second release following the very successful 2018 Grüner.
Grüner Veltliner is one of the major varieties grown in Austria (over 1/3 of all plantings) and because of its versatility can produce a range of styles from light, crisp and youthful to rich and full-bodied depending on the microclimate. Some producers even make dessert wine and sparklings. Grüner means green in German.
Grüner Veltliner is often described as similar to Riesling but with a bit more richness and a distinctively peppery aroma and flavour. Yellow apple, green pear, green bean, and white pepper are common descriptors. On the nose there are fresh green herb aromas, celery, green vegetable, a dash of stonefruit and citrus fruit, and a hint of struck match. The ripe palate has nice weight and texture, with balanced acidity, featuring delicious stonefruit flavours.
Pair with spicy Asian vegetable dishes or Japanese. Or just try where you would normally have Riesling. Drink now to 2022.
